What is a DIY Escape Room?

Now you are probably familiar with what an escape room is by now. Still, to sum it up, it’s an interactive engagement event where a group of participants enters a pre-constructed  themed room to solve puzzles, usually with physical props, to complete the room and “escape.”

A DIY escape room translates the same game event to a do-it-yourself experience. Instead of you entering a room to solve a puzzle, you bring the puzzle into the room. A DIY escape room is built by a professional escape room designer to ensure that the attraction is fun and unique. 

The rooms include puzzle elements like documents, props, and laptops. Additionally, regular escape rooms are themed, often around detectives, investigations, or other mysterious topics, so DIY escape rooms include decoration to transform an ordinary space into a full-on puzzle experience.

Now, this is not to be confused with a Portable Escape Room; those require a game operator and a more complicated setup, in which a portable room is brought to your event. A DIY Escape Room is shipped to you; you set it up, run the event, and, when you are done, return it using the included shipping label.

How do I Run an Escape Room?

Setting up and running one of these events can seem intimidating, but we provide everything you need to make sure your participants have fun in the event, and you have fun running the game! Specifically, we offer:

When Should You Use a DIY Escape Room?

An escape room like this can be used in all sorts of scenarios. It can be used by colleges to provide entertainment for orientation, spring week, fall fest, or other events.

It may also be used by corporations for their events and team-building exercises. Really, though, a DIY escape room can be brought to almost any event and give your guests a fun way to spend some time and bond together!

How can you use a DIY Escape Room in your event?

There are a few ways you can use a DIY escape room to provide entertainment for your event. One could be to cycle groups of people out regularly. The escape rooms are designed to take about 15 minutes to complete, so many different groups can try their hand at escaping. We can also extend the length of the escape room upon request if you have a smaller number of participants who want a longer experience. 

We ship 2 to 3 packaged rooms at a time, so you can have multiple groups cycling between different rooms; that way, lots of participants can compete to clear the rooms faster than others, or take it at their own pace. Either way, this offers a unique and engaging experience that your guests will be sure to remember!

If you have a bigger crowd and want to offer your guests variety, you may also want to combine your escape room with other entertainment for your event! This entertainment could come in many forms: a game show, music, art, inflatables, portable ice skating, or other DIY events!
