2019: Neon’s Year in Review

Neon Entertainment is proud to have been serving the college market for the last 28 years and happy to say that 2019 was one of our best yet. The year marked many milestone for our agency and artists, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the new decade! So today, we are taking time to reflect on our most memorable moments of the past year.

Alex Babbitt @ The Apollo

We started off the year with an exciting day for stand-up comedian, Alex Babbitt. On January 10th, 2019, he performed at the iconic venue for the first time to a sold out audience.

Up There Premiere

Comedian Michael Blaustein directed, wrote, and stared in the film Up There. The film premiered at Newport Beach Film Festival this year. Up There is about a down on his luck journalist finds himself who a less than ideal assignment in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He acquires the help of a local, who he soon discovers possesses the story that could jump start his career.

Emily Earle Opens for Blake Shelton

Emily Earle was a former contestant on Season 3 of The Voice. She recently worked with her former judge opening for Blake Shelton at the 20th Anniversary of Musicians on Call Kickoff Celebration.

Meghan Linsey & Tyler Cain get Engaged

Another former contestant of The Voice joins our 2019 list of memorable moments. Season 8 runner-up, Meghan Linsey, and her fiance Tyler Cain got engaged this past June. Together, they make up the dynamic country duo, Meg + Tyler.

Todd Carey Reached 1 Million Spotify Streams

Todd Carey reached 1 Million Streams and released his latest single “Don’t Know When to Quit.”

Renee Santos Comedy Special is available now Amazon Prime

Renee Santos’ 1-hour Comedy Special, Out of the Box, was picked up on Amazon Prime in October of this year. The special is free to all Amazon Prime members, marking a very special milestone in Renee’s comedy career.
 
 

2019 APCA Midwest Agency of the Year

Neon Entertainment is honored to be APCA Midwest’s 2019 Agency of the Year. APCA is The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities. They offers professional development, networking opportunities for students and activities directors across the country, as well as student activities planning conferences and resources.

2019 Word of the Year

Merriam-Webster announced the pronoun “they” as its word of the year. The pronoun refers to a single person whose gender identity is nonbinary. This is the reflection of our increasingly inclusive society. Spoken Word Artist, Ebo Barton, performs the poem Gender Pronouns.

Loosen The Bible Belt Podcast

Loosen The Bible Belt is a speaker series that combines the efforts of Comedian Kristen Becker, and evengelical minister Jay Bakker, rasing for awareness for the LGBTQ+ community across the country. They recently launched their podcast. Each episode features a different guest to share their stories.

 

Jaylene Clark Owens Wins the F. Otto Haas Award

Jaylene Clark Owens won the F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist at the 2019 Theatre Philadelphia Barrymore Awards. This prestigious award comes with a cash prize of $15,000.

John Gurney had 22.5 Million Streams on Spotify

John released several singles this year, including Drink I Think, Speak of The Devil, and That’s How You Got It. He reached 22.5 Million Streams on Spotify with over 4.2 Million Listeners!
