Lem “Saint” Gonsalves first began his poetic journey reciting poems at his father’s church. Since then, he has performed internationally and has released 2 CD’s, a chapbook, and a DVD documentary entitled “Rise To the Ill-List: Poetic Journey of The Saint”. His style infuses humor, passion, and ideals which inspire as well as entertain. He has opened for hip-hop artists Common and Lupe Fiasco and has shared the stage with R&B legends Bel Biv Devoe and Faith Evans and even performed for the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana. He was also selected to perform on Season 3 and Season 5 of the NAACP Image Award nominated show “Verses and Flow” which highlights spoken word poetry and soul music. As a competitor, he has represented numerous poetry slam teams over the years at the National Poetry Slam competition and has won many championship titles as a solo performer.
As a host and producer, Saint has been a fixture at Afterbuzz TV covering multiple different shows from the reality genre to drama to red carpet interviews for close to four years. He also hosts a weekly segment called “The Wait” in which he interviews patrons of the largest open mic in the country, Da Poetry Lounge, and seeks to highlight their individual stories. He is currently in the development process of a podcast titled “Word of Mouth” which will feature poets of all genres to get an inside look of the journey that brought them to the place they are now.
